I have two different problems and they are almost the same. I have to figure out after four years how much money would be in an investment fund. One goes from January 2007 and wants us to figure it out for January 2011. However, the other one says January 2007, but it wants us to figure that out for December 2011. I guess I just need to know which number of periods and which compound interest equation I am supposed to use to figure each one out. Can anyone help me?

Response:These future valuations are always a problem. The future is unknowable so all the figures are a joke. Use simple interest. Divide the year into 1/12ths or divide the year into 365 days and use monthly or daily interest to get your figure..

What certifications should I have to work in a private equity investment fund?
I'm a student of civil engineering at Brazil and I like the sand of finance, and would like to start my career in this world of business ... Is there a requirement for me to get these funds? Response:At the very least you should have an MBA or finance degree. Then you should obtain a FINRA Series 6 or 7 registration. Once you begin working at a private equity fund, you should obtain one or more certifications, such as a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Financial Professional (CFO), or Financial Compliance Professional (FCP). Check the www.finra.org website and the www.nasaa.org website for additional requirements.

Response:Your best bet, and it is a bet since gambling is involved, is to start an investment club. This would probably be local and you could have meetings etc. Just open a bank account under the name to be used. Collect investment money and go for it. Now an investment fund would give the idea of a mutual fund. A lot of time and red tape involved with selling stock on the market. This would also cost you the start up and leave nothing for investing.
